Balloon race - Fun Day / Open Day at Gigg Lane

Reporter: Ask Bury
Date online: 25 July 2007

The weather may be awful but come rain or shine on The Forever Bury Open Day / Fun Day at Bury FC's Gigg Lane ground will be going ahead on Sunday 29th July at 1.00pm.

The club has undergone many changes over the 'Summer' months with a restructured management chain and a host of new players. Come on down and meet Keith Alexander, Chris Casper and the playing staff as they mingle with the fans.

As always work has been going on to improve the infrastructure and this year has seen a refurbishment of the home changing rooms, whilst Forever Bury have joined forces with The Football in the Community team at Gigg Lane to develop a Study Support Centre at Gigg Lane. This will be officially opened on the day by the Mayor of Bury.

The Study Support Centre will be a great addition to the towns educational facilities with various courses for all ages being developed.

As always all the facilities will be open for fans to have a look behind the scenes and see the improvements for themselves.

Just to add to the fun there are lots of side shows, with bouncy castle, slide, hook a fish, penalty shoot outs, face painting, rides, tombola etc. Whilst several of the towns local charities will be there including Bury Hospice who will be offering the chance to win a car, the MS Society, Bury FC Disabled Fans. Angela's Pantry will be there offering Robbie the Bobby gingerbreads and other taste offerings.

The 1885 Suite and Legends Bar will be open for refreshments as well as the bars in the Social Club.

The Annual Balloon Race will be launched in the afternoon and balloons can be bought on the day, whilst Robbie the Bobby will be on hand to amuse the kids and doing his best to sell tickets for the 'Hoe Down'  he's organising for August 25th.

It's the eve of yet another season and all new seasons are looked on with optimism by fans all over the country and that's no different at Gigg Lane. Five years ago Bury Fc nearly disappeared. In those five years a mammoth effort by everyone involved with the club kept the dream alive. The finances have been stabilised, a superb youth set up in place producing a lot of talented youngsters. There's now a new management set up and a new squad is being assembled. The future looks bright, but to put the icing on the cake, we now need the people of Bury to get behind the club. So come on down on Sunday, see what a friendly place it is, and hopefully realise that you can make a difference. It's Our Town, Our Team!
