Date published: 02 February 2012

Police have released an image of a man after a teenager was assaulted in Bury.

At 10pm on Sunday 29 January 2012, the 17-year-old victim had just got off a bus at the BP Garage on Brandlesholme Road.

As she was walked along the junction with Mayor Street and Back Walshaw Road North she was approached by a man. He asked for directions to a shop before the victim walked off.

She was followed and when she told the man to leave her alone, he grabbed her and pushed her against a wall.

She screamed at him and managed to fight him off before running away.

The man is described as being white, had an eastern European accent, in his 40s, was 5ft 5in tall, had dark coloured hair that was bald on top. He was wearing a top with dark and light horizontal stripes, a black jacket and blue jeans.

Detective Inspector Vicky Shaw from Bury CID said: “I would urge anyone who saw a man fitting this description to contact us as soon as possible. We would also like to speak to anyone who may have been on the 472 bus travelling from Stubbins to Bury and who may have seen him approach the victim.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8358 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
