Be part of it - an Olympic legacy for Bury
Date published: 01 February 2012
Event organisers arranging Olympic-inspired events in Bury during 2012 are being offered the opportunity to link their event with “Bury be part of it”, Bury’s local Cultural Olympiad campaign.
Inspired by London 2012, the aim of “Bury be part of it” is to involve as many people in sport and cultural activities in the run-up to, during and after the 2012 Olympics.
To help event organisers get involved and get help with planning and promoting events, Bury Council’s Sport and Physical Activity Service have put together the “Bury be part of it” toolkit. Organisers can access the toolkit and express their interest in joining in with the campaign at www.bury.gov.uk/bepartofit/interested
Councillor Jane Lewis, executive member for leisure, tourism and culture, said: “We want to encourage event organisers to join the celebration by adopting the “Bury be part of it” brand for their events in 2012.
“Hosting the Olympics in this country and the Olympic Torch Relay passing through our borough on Saturday 23 June provides us with a fantastic opportunity to showcase what Bury has to offer.
“The more organisers that adopt the brand and link their event with “Bury be part of it” the greater chance we have of involving our communities and creating a lasting Olympic legacy.
“If you are organising an Olympic-inspired event this year please let us know your plans as soon as you can – together we can showcase a wide variety of events for our communities to get involved in.”
