Thief behind bars but cops say stay vigilant

Even though one of Bury’s prolific sneak-in burglars is under lock and key, Burysafe officials are still warning people to lock their UPVC doors behind them when they come home from work.

Thomas Alexander Baker born 6.1.78 was arrested and charged with two offences of committing burglary by entering homes through unlocked doors and open windows he had a further two burglary offences taken into consideration.

Crime Reduction Advisor Gaynor Mason says; "Baker is not our only opportunist thief in the Borough. Since April this year 172 people  have found themselves falling victim to this type of crime, and most of the time occupants are totally unaware they have been burgled until the offender is long gone. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of keeping your home secure whether you are in or out".

Baker was remanded in custody and is next due in court on 26.9.07 for sentencing.
