Join the conversation with successful new authors

Date published: 26 January 2012

Two successful new authors invite you to join them at Bury Library for an afternoon of book talk and readings.

Emma Jane Unsworth and Jenn Ashworth will read from their recently published books on Saturday 4 February, as part of National Libraries Day. Librarian and reader Jane Mathieson will join them in conversation about writing, reading and how public libraries support both activities.

Jenn Ashworth Jenn was enjoying a career as a prison librarian when she gave up the glamour for the long hard slog of life as a full-time writer. As well as two published novels she also writes an award winning blog on her website www.jennashworth.co.uk She hails from Preston, and her books are set in damp northern towns, akin to our own! “Cold Light” is a story of the intense friendship of three teenage girls and was published in May to excellent reviews in the national press. Jenn's previous book “A Kind of Intimacy” won the Betty Trask Award and was shortlisted for a host of other prizes.

Emma Jane Unsworth Author, journalist, science geek and friend to libraries indeed, Emma lives in Prestwich and her short fiction has been published by Salt, Comma, Prospect Magazine and Channel 4 Books. Emma wrote a searing article in defence of libraries for The Big Issue in the North and her first novel “Hungry, the Stars and Everything” was published by The Hidden Gem Press in June 2011. It’s about drinking, eating, not eating, astronomy and the devil.

Jane Mathieson Jane runs Time to Read, the country's first Regional Reader Development Network, and has been involved in libraries for many years. She co-ordinates activity across the North West, encouraging councils to work together, and has brought the biggest writers in the country to the region. Jane continues to support libraries in delivering quality events and reaching new audiences.

The Bury event is free and starts at 1.30pm, with refreshments. Places are limited – to book, call Bury Library on 0161 253 5872 or email Alison Bond McNally on a.e.bond@bury.gov.uk
