Local views canvassed on controversial junction
Reporter: Ask Bury

Bury Council is asking local residents and users of the junction at Ringley Road and Stand Lane, Whitefield to take part in a consultation exercise seeking their comments on the mini-roundabout which was introduced during Spring 2006.
Since the opening of the mini-roundabout, residents have suggested that a considerable number of damage-only collisions and near misses are occurring that go unreported.
In response to these concerns Bury Council is currently reviewing the operation of this junction. A consultation exercise is underway and open until Friday 21 September 2007 after which the outcome will be analysed and reported to the Whitefield and Unsworth Local Area Partnership meeting on Thursday 18 October.
Brian Daniel, Assistant Director Planning, Engineering amp; Transportation said ldquo; In order to assess local opinion, consultation documents will be delivered to residents and occupiers of properties located in the immediate area of the junction and also to residents in side roads in the locality. However, we also want to hear the views of regular users of the junction that live outside the immediate area.
Respondents need to consider whether the mini-roundabout at the Ringley Road/Stand Lane junction should be retained or whether the junction should revert to priority control (ie, Ringley Road resuming the right of way with a lsquo;give way’ control for Stand lane).”
Consultation documents containing more information and response forms are available online at www.bury.gov.uk/traffic-calming or they can be requested from Planning, Engineering amp; Transportation Services, Lester House, 21 Broad Street, Bury BL9 0AW (phone 0161 253 5782).
