An interactive map which highlights accident hotspots across Greater Manchester has been launched by Greater Manchester Transportation Unit (GMTU).

Reporter: Ask Bury
Date online: 27 September 2007

Working with the ten local authorities of Greater Manchester, GMTU has developed a web based interactive map of road accidents. The map displays summary information for traffic accidents in the past 10 years and allows members of the public to view accidents in their area.  Basic traffic flow data is also included.

The map will be updated quarterly and can be seen at
www.gmtu.gov.uk/gmaccidents/

Officers in Bury Council's Traffic Management team have been helping with the development of the site and the Executive Member for Environment and Transport Dorothy Gunther said: "This is a terrific idea as it helps to demonstrate to residents how local authorities direct their attention to those areas where preventative measures need to be taken as a matter of urgency."
