Local Jobs for Local People

Jobcentre Plus and Bury Council are sponsoring a major Jobs Fair event at Bury Town Hall for the ninth consecutive year.

An autumn Jobs Fair (on October 3 this year) has now become something of an annual event in Bury and offers local jobseekers an opportunity to speak directly with local employers about the many jobs available in the Bury area.

This year’s event will follow a similar format to last year’s event, and will again feature an invitation only session in the morning from 10am to 1pm, as well as the public drop-in session in the afternoon.

The idea of the morning session is to attract people whose circumstances may be acting as an extra barrier to getting the right job. Someone may, for instance, have suffered an accident or illness that has prevented them from working for a prolonged period; parents of young children often face the problem of not being able to find appropriate, affordable childcare. Being able to speak with people for a greater length of time makes it easier for employers and specialist advisers to identify possible employment options.

Bury Council’s executive member for learning, skills and employment, Councillor Iain Gartside said; "Last year’s event was a great success with more than 800 people attending. The event has real jobs on offer from real employers and we are proud to be associated with it. It certainly helps towards one of the council’s key ambitions - quality jobs for Bury people."

Hoping to find staff from this years event are many organisations including  O2, Barclays Bank, Lloyds Bank, PC World, PCT, Police, and the council itself.

Recruitment consultant for O2, Louise Martin said; "This is a fantastic opportunity for us at the O2 Bury Contact Centre to raise our profile and showcase our jobs as an employer within the local community."

The afternoon session is from 1pm to 4 pm.

If you would like further information, please ring Tracey Webb on 0161 253 6040 or, simply turn up on the day between 1pm  and 4pm.
