The Heritage Museum in Prestwich Library reopend its doors to the public last week with a brand new exhibition and display.
Bury Council created the museum in 2006 with the help of Heritage Lottery Funding, to display the treasures of Prestwich past and present to the local community.
Prestwich Heritage Society had long wanted a home for all the artefacts which have been dug up, stored away or rescued from various sites around the town and they argued that the library is an ideal central location for these to be viewed, not only by locals but anyone interested in the heritage of a small town whose origin dates back hundreds of years.
The new exhibition entitled lsquo;Prestwich at War,’ has been created with material from the archive and donations from Prestwich residents.
Also included is a display of children’s artwork from a project completed by Butterstile Primary, St Hilda’s CE Primary and Prestwich Arts College. One Hundred and Twenty (120) children worked with artists on themes linking in to the area and interpreted these into clay tiles, a replica of a stained-glass window and a clay timeline. The latter is on display along with the exhibition and the window is installed in the garden at Butterstile Primary School.
