Bury Residence urged to turn their clock back on crime.

Reporter: Ask Bury
Date online: 30/10/2007

As the clocks turned back at weekend, police officers in Bury are now urging residents to beat the burglar by taking simple steps to safeguard their homes.
Police warn that there is usually an increase in break-ins at this time of year as evenings become darker and so are asking members of the public to go ALL out to beat thieves this autumn by remembering Alarms, Locks and Lights.
This simple three-point message is a reminder to put the Alarm on, Lock all doors and windows and leave a Light on when leaving your home empty.

"Although burglaries have steadily decreased over the past 12 months, we are urging residents to step up their security," explained Chief Inspector Karan Lee from Bury police.  "As the clocks go back, evenings become darker and create ideal opportunities for thieves.  By remembering to apply the simple ALL out message every time you leave your property, you will make it less attractive as a target for burglars."

In September 2007, there were 77 burglaries in Bury – 41 less than there were during the same period in 2006.

Chief Inspector Lee added: "Burglary may have dropped by almost 35 per cent in September compared to last year, but we need residents to stay aware and help us continue the good work."

Bury police will be reminding residents of how they can make their homes safer and posters will also be displayed in public places to support the campaign.
