With the first signs of spring in the air and the Easter holidays just around the corner, Bury Council’s sports development team is encouraging youngsters across Bury to get out and about and be active.
A bumper Easter is in store with lots of different sporting opportunities on offer that young people can take part in.
Bury Council’s executive member for Health and Wellbeing, Councillor Beverly Sullivan said; ldquo;Sport and physical activity plays such an important part in providing for a healthy lifestyle as well as being great fun and a big part of being happy. We want to encourage children and adults to take part in the many activities provided by Bury Leisure throughout the year.”
Multi-sports in parks leads the way with qualified sports leaders providing afternoons of fun in Hoyles Park, Openshaw Park, Close Park, and Bolton Road Park, Radcliffe. Each session costs just 50p and there is no need to book a place - just turn up and play. For more details contact Anthony or Stephanie on 0161 253 5122.
Bury and Rochdale Active Generation (BRAG), a successful summer scheme running in Bury over the last 9 years has been expanded to take in the Easter holiday period as well. For 3 to 4 days young people will be provided with a free bus pass and encouraged to take part in a variety of different activities throughout the borough. Activities available include basketball, swimming, kurling, dance and gym fitness. For more details contact Adam on 0161 253 6660.
In Partnership with coaches from Salford Reds and Swinton Lions a 3 day coaching camp will be delivered at Parrenthorn High School to introduce 10 to 14 year olds to the skills of Rugby League For more details contact Anthony or Stephanie on 0161 253 5122.
Community Cricket Coach, Joe Scuderi is running a Cricket Activity and Coaching Clinic at Holy Cross. The course will run for 4 days between 10am and 4pm and costs only pound;40. Some high quality coaching in the nets can be expected as well some fun games allowing participants to put their new skills into practice. For more information call Joe on 0161 253 6766.
If sports or a career in sports interests you, why not sign yourself up to the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership? (formerly known as the Community Sports Leaders Award, CSLA). This is the first step up on the coaching ladder and once completed awardees will be able to assist in coaching sports and games sessions.
