It Pays to Love Recycling!
Date published: 09 February 2011
A lucky Manchester resident has won £100 of shopping vouchers thanks to Recycle for Greater Manchester’s first edition of ‘I Love Recycling’. Residents had their say on the new supplement in an online questionnaire, which automatically entered them in to the prize draw.
The first edition of ‘I Love Recycling’ featured in the Manchester Evening News in December 2010 and informed residents of how to reduce, re-use and recycle more of Greater Manchester’s waste. The most popular articles included hints and tips to help reduce food waste, information on local Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), an A-Z of recycling and also a feature on what happens to your recycling.
Councillor Neil Swannick, Chair of Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority said: “It’s fantastic that so many people read the ‘I Love Recycling’ supplement and I hope it encouraged residents to recycle and compost more of their household waste. We continue with our ambitious programme of bringing about change in the way residents see waste and we are confident about achieving our ambition of zero waste to landfill.”
The lucky winner Mrs J Park from Wythenshawe commented: “I found the ‘I Love Recycling’ supplement very useful, especially the hints and tips section, it has made me more aware of the waste my household produces and has shown me how to take action to reduce it. The shopping vouchers are a great bonus.”
The results of the online survey showed that residents would like more information on recycling in their area, more hints and tips and informative articles to help save money. Recycle for Greater Manchester will make sure this is represented in the next issue.
Those who missed out on the last edition of ‘I Love Recycling’ need not fear as the next supplement will feature in the Manchester Evening News on the 17th of March and weekly papers on the 24th March. In the mean time, residents can log on to www.recycleforgreatermanchester.com to find out more information and also to view details on the most current campaign Spikey Says… “Stick it in the right bin”.
