National child safety campaign arrives in Bury

Date published: 07 September 2010

Eight out of ten child safety seats are incorrectly fitted, which could mean the difference between life and death.

A national campaign to highlight the dangers and show parents how to properly install the seats is now coming to Bury on October 1.

The event will run from 10am until 4pm at the Tesco car park in Bury town centre. The Good Egg campaign has been launched by Road Safety GB (RSGB), which represents more than 200 council road safety teams.

An expert from Dynamic will be hosting free educational car seat check clinics, supported by Bury Council officers who will offer guidance on the various types of safety seat, and distribute the Good Egg Guide.

Ted Booker, road safety officer for Bury Council, said: “We’re really excited to be able to announce the launch of Road Safety GB’s national campaign in Bury. Children and infants are our most vulnerable road users and an ill-fitted car seat can mean the difference between life and death. The campaign will run throughout England this autumn, and over this period we look forward to helping mums, dads and other carers make sure that their children are safe in the car.”

The campaign is sponsored by Arnold Clark Automobiles, Europe’s largest car dealer group.
