Topping Fold looking tip top after community clean up
Date published: 06 September 2010
Topping Fold Community Centre’s garden got a late spring clean after residents and offenders teamed-up to enhance the area.
The garden had become overgrown because those who previously maintained it were unable to continue caring for it.
Volunteers from the Topping Fold Tenants and Residents Association decided that it was time for big overhaul of the garden to get it to a manageable level before a new team of volunteers work on the garden every month to keep clean, tidy and looking good.
Barbara Rhodes, Chair of Topping Fold TRA, said: “We want to thank the Community Payback team for all their hard work, they have made such a huge difference to the community by improving the garden for all to use”.
Offenders worked alongside volunteers all day to trim the grass, hedges and overgrown plants and helped make a real difference to the site.
Six Town Housing’s staff collected and disposed of all the waste.
Community Payback is a punishment for breaking the law, rigorously supervised and enforced by probation. It is also a way for offenders to make up to the community for the harm they have done.
