A64 Barton crash leaves woman dead

A 57-year-old woman from Bury has died from her injuries following a collision on the A64 in North Yorkshire, reports the BBC.
It happened at about 3.30pm Monday on the eastbound carriageway at Barton crossroads and involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Peugeot 307.
The woman, who was a passenger in the Golf, was taken to hospital where she died.
A girl aged five, travelling in the Peugeot, was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
The woman's husband, who was driving the Golf, was uninjured.
Three other passengers in the car, a woman and two boys aged nine and six, were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.
The male driver of the Peugeot was uninjured but a woman passenger and a nine-year-old girl were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.
The road was closed until 10.00pm while collision investigators examined the scene.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
