Anti-social behaviour targeted as summer holidays come to an end
Date published: 26 August 2010
Police in Bury are ensuring anti-social behaviour incidents are kept to a minimum as the school summer holidays come to an end, as part of the Safe4Summer campaign.
Prestwich Neighbourhood Policing Team will be launching Operation Dice Two on (27 August) and will run it until the new term starts.
The operation will focus on disrupting those who take part in anti-social behaviour by providing high visibility patrols in the area and working alongside Bury Council’s youth services to advise young people about alternative activities they can get involved with.
During the summer months, anti-social behaviour has reduced in Prestwich by 14 percent in June compared to the same month in 2009 and 10 percent in July compared to 12 months ago.
Inspector Mark Kenny from Bury Division’s Prestwich and Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Over the past few weeks we have seen a reduction in incidents which is good news but we are refusing to be complacent. As the school holidays come to an end, we need to send a clear message to those who commit anti-social behaviour that their actions will not be tolerated.
“Through our surgeries and PACT meetings, residents have told us anti-social behaviour is one of their priorities and we are determined to reduce incidents even further. Through our Service Promise we have undertaken to listen to and act on people’s concerns and work with them to make their neighbourhoods safer.”
Safe4Summer is a joint initiative involving Greater Manchester Police, Bury Council and the Fire and Rescue Service which aims to highlight the wealth of exciting activities taking place across the borough to enable youngsters to have fun but stay safe during the long summer break.
The campaign also aims to promote messages of social responsibility and get children to think about the consequences of their actions and what may appear to be harmless fun, may be seen as anti-social by others.
