Bury College student wins Gold in Aromatherapy for the second year in a row.

A Bury College Complementary Therapies student has won a gold medal in the UK world skills competition in Aromatherapy. This is the second year running that a student from Bury College has won gold.

18-year old, Siân Ali attended the finals at Derby College, where she competed against the other regional finalists and was required to treat a client, provide a consultation, treatment, aftercare advice and answer questions. Siân from Radcliffe has been a student at the College for the last 3 years and has already completed her Level 2 and level 3 awards in Beauty Therapy. Siân is now working towards her Level 3 award in Complementary Therapies at Bury College.

Kate Baker, Team Leader in Complementary Therapies encouraged Siân to enter the competition, she said, ““I am extremely proud of Siân, and her accomplishment at the UK World Skills event. This is her 3rd year at Bury College, and she has excelled in the area of Complementary Therapies to successfully achieve her level three qualification. Sian has worked very hard to win this award against strong competition, and she should be very proud of herself. This is the second year a student studying Complementary Therapies has gained first place and a gold award in aromatherapy and we are delighted with their achievements.”

Siân said, “I was speechless when I found out I’d won a gold medal. It was a very rewarding experience, and I feel very proud to have achieved this award. When I finish my Level 3 course, I’m going to work full time in a local Salon where I started my work experience. In the future I hope to travel with my skills and work in Spas all over the world. Eventually I’d like my own business.”

Siân will receive her gold medal at the official awards ceremony on the 4th November, to be held at the IMAX in London.
