Date published: 24 August 2010

Frank McCarron, the Headteacher of St. Monica’s RC High School Specialist Language and Applied Learning College in Prestwich, described as phenomenal the recent GCSE examination results. “They are just reward for the hard work of staff and students”.

The school recorded a record 94% 5A*-C and 76% 5A*-C including English and Maths.

Mr McCarron also described as outstanding the fact that 15% of his students (32) achieved 9+ A*/A grades.

The younger students in the school were not to be outdone.

190 students, as young as year 7, entered GCSE examinations early in Polish, Italian, Mandarin, French, Science, ICT and Performing Arts, recording a staggering 100% A*-C pass rate.
