Bolton Road Estate residents join forces for a day of action
Date published: 24 August 2010
Bolton Road estate’s day of action, with offenders from the Community Payback scheme, will take place on Friday 27 August between 10am and 4.00pm
The activity will focus around Buller Street, Powell, Kitchener, Connaught, Whitehead and Dearden and organisations from across Team Bury, such as the Police, Fire Service, Six Town Housing, Bury Council and Greater Manchester Probation Trust.
Activities on the day include:
- Representatives from Greater Manchester Probation Trust who will be supervising and working with offenders from the community payback team to assist residents with their gardening
- The mobile gym – which provides a range of gym equipment to have a go one – will be on the estate along with representatives from Bury FC in The Community and Bury Council’s Sports Development Team to encourage people to have a go and keep fit
- Council staff, Six Town Housing staff and residents will be cleaning grot spots, litter picking and removing graffiti
- Residents will be encouraged to take part in a gardening competition to make their local area bloom during the summer months
Councillor Denise Bigg, Chair of Bury West Local Area Partnership, said: “This area is one of our key priorities for Bury East. The local residents do make a really good effort to keep the area clean and tidy, but we identified an opportunity for all the organisations in Bury to come together to support these actions further as a part of a focused day of action which will have a positive outcome for all concerned”.
Paul Anderson, Community Payback Manager, said: "Offenders will be paying back to the communities against which they have offended in a very real way. By helping the elderly maintain their gardens they will be supporting vulnerable members of society, and will be able to take pride in the work they are completing."
