New Radcliffe library and community centre opens

Date published: 29 July 2010

Radcliffe residents are invited to the official opening of the new Coronation Road Community Centre and Library.

A day of activities has been organised for the grand launch on Tuesday August 10, to demonstrate a few of the activities that will be on offer at the centre.

Coronation Road is one of three new community libraries which have now opened to bring services even closer to residents – the other two are in Moorside and Brandlesholme in Bury – and a fourth, in Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, will follow shortly.

The four have been funded by the Big Lottery and will forge links with local schools and agencies, while boasting new and improved services.

The Coronation Road centre will be officially opened at 3.30pm. But before then, there’s a storytime session from 10.30am to 12pm (with refreshments) and a “Get Yourself Started” computing course with a look at tracing your ancestry from 1pm to 3pm. In the training room, the “Knit and Natter” group meets from 10am to 12pm, and then there’s an Age of Opportunities event for over-50s, flower arranging, from 1pm to 3pm.

A buffet will follow the opening, and then flowers will be planted in the community garden between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.

Councillor Yvonne Creswell, cabinet member for communities, said: “I am delighted that the Coronation Road community centre and library is now open. It will act as a hub in the community, offering a wide range of services in prime location where local residents and groups can meet. I am sure that local residents will love the centre and make great use of it.”

Opening times at Coronation Road are: Monday and Tuesday (2pm to 5.30pm), Wednesday (10am to 5.30pm), Friday (10am to 2pm) and Saturday (10am to 1pm).
