Disused garage sites - how should they be used?
Date published: 27 July 2010
Six Town Housing (STH) are reviewing the council-owned garages sites in the Borough many of which are on, or close to, Six Town Housing neighbourhoods.
Garage sites are often under-occupied, not cost effective to run, attract antisocial behaviour and detract from the surrounding area.
The purpose of the review has been to identify such sites and to put in place a process for finding alternative uses for them in order to positively enhance the community. We have identified a number of sites that are currently underused and are, therefore, uneconomic.
Possible uses have been considered in general terms, for example as allotments, play areas, new build sites or even retention as garage sites.
John Bowker, of STH, said: “This is a lengthy but, by no means, comprehensive list, there are other things we can consider.
“Over the next few months, we want to find out what local people think about how the review sites in their area could be used.”
We would like to hear the views and ideas of people living near them.
As such, we will be embarking on consultation exercises over the next few months could the patch of land near you become a play area or even allotments or be used for housing?
Six Town Housing (STH) staff want residents to tell them how disused garage sites should be used. If you would like further information, please contact us.
