Bringing wildlife back to Radcliffe
Date published: 26/07/2010
Work to restore a green part of Radcliffe is well under way, led by tenants and residents of Abbey Close.
The TRA is working with Six Town Housing to bring Redbank Lodges back to a decent standard and encourage aquatic wildlife back to the area. Over the years the lodges have become run down and neglected and the community felt it was time that something was done.
Some £20,000 has been secured by the TRA to provide wildflowers, picnic benches, benches, bird boxes and interpretation panels. The TRA even has volunteer wardens to walk round the lodges and monitor the wildlife and pick up on any problems - since they have been doing this the level of vandalism has decreased.
Morrisons donated £50 for aquatic plants to encourage wildlife in the lodges, and residents were invited to take part in the planting. The volunteer wardens are now going to monitor the plants to see how they take.
