Have your say on the future on East Bury

Reporter: Dave Parton
Date online: 10 July 2010

Residents in East Bury have their chance to say how they feel on a whole range of important local issues at the Local Area Partnership.

The big item to be debated is the Local Community Plan, where people can join discussions about employment, education, crime, health, the environment and community engagement.

Kim Griffiths, Bury East LAP manager, said: “This will help to form the working document and action plan for the LAP over the next couple of years, and everyone’s views count.

“A working party of community members and officers will put the plan together based on what ideas and views come from this meeting.”

The next LAP meeting is at Bury Town Hall on Thursday 22 July. Residents can speak to councillors and partner agencies from 6pm before the meeting formally begins at 6.30pm.

Also on the agenda is an update of Six Town Housing garage sites, with proposals on what to do with sites that are no longer well used, have become unsightly and attract anti-social behaviour, litter and fly-tipping. The presentation is part of a wider consultation to see what residents would like to happen to the sites, and all ideas are welcome.

Councillor Dot Cassidy, the new chair of Bury East LAP, said: “This is a different agenda than usual, but it reflects the need to take into account the views of all partners and members of the public.

“Everyone is welcome to come and give their views and to join in with the round table discussions. There will be a great deal of information that should be of interest to people living and working in Bury East.

“We hope that local residents will join us for the meeting. There will also be the usual police and LAP updates and a chance for anyone to raise issues of local concern in the open forum part of the meeting.”
