Reporter: Dave Parton
Date online: 09 July 2010

Police in Bury are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a woman as she walked home after a night out.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday 26 June 2010, the 25-year-old woman was making her way down Dawson Street when a man grabbed her from behind and sexually assaulted her.

The offender ran away after the woman screamed and nearby door was heard opening. He ran down the back of Hamilton Street.

He is described as being white aged in his 20s, of slim build with dark brown hair. At the time of the offence he was wearing a white top and dark trousers.

Police Constable Karl Perry, based at Bury police station, said: "This was an unpleasant attack on woman who was on her way home after walking from the precinct on Walmersley Road and then down Chesham Road before walking down Dawson Street.

"There may have been people about at that time who maybe saw her and perhaps her attacker close by.

"This assault has left her feeling understandably shocked and upset, so I'm asking anyone who thinks they can help to call us."

Anyone with any information should call police on 0161 856 8042 or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
