Young people have their say about libraries
Date published: 23 June 2010
Young people from Whitefield and Tottington have been helping to choose their books they want in their libraries.
They all attend reading groups or homework clubs at their local branch, and made a special shopping mission to Manchester.
It was part of the Fulfilling their Potential project, run by the Reading Agency which spent two years asking young people what they thought of their local libraries and what they wanted to find in them. Their views will help in drawing up plans for a modern service.
There will be a book launch on Thursday (June 24) at Whitefield Library & Adult Learning Centre, where the young people can see the books they have bought and enjoy refreshments.
At the launch they will be firming up plans for The Big Event provisionally arranged for Saturday July 10, from 2pm to 4pm, where the young people have already provided some great ideas such as pamper sessions, Manga drawing, pottery, henna artists, and Just Chill.
The Big Event is an end-of-project party for the young people involved and the detail will be decided by them.
