Police uncover Ramsbottom cannabis farm

Date published: 02 June 2010

Police have seized more than 1,500 cannabis plants from business premises in Ramsbottom.

The plants were discovered after officers from the Ramsbottom Neighbourhood Policing Team and planning enforcement officers from Bury Council carried out a search warrant at Waterside Mill and Peel Bridge Mill on Kenyon Street - following complaints regarding the use of the buildings - at around 3pm on Tuesday 1 June.

The plants were at varying stages of growth and have an estimated street value of up to £300,000. One man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

During the search of the buildings, several breaches of planning control were also found to be taking place.

Inspector Bryn Williams of the Ramsbottom NPT said: “This is the second major cannabis farm we have uncovered in Ramsbottom in the last two months and it is great result for the local community as we have managed to stop a large amount of drugs from reaching the streets of Bury.

“A major element of the many successes we have had against drug crime in the last year has been the level of support and information we have received from local people about crime in their neighbourhoods and we want to thank them for that and urge them to continue to provide us with information anonymously via the GMP drugs hotline on 0161 856 1417 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
