Getting better to serve Bury better
Date published: 27 May 2010
Skilled employees deliver better services – that was the message at Bury Council’s Learner Recognition Awards.
Staff who have gained professional and job-related qualifications were presented with certificates by the new Mayor of Bury, Councillor John Byrne.
Their achievements are recognised each year on Learning at Work Day, which is promoted by the national Campaign for Learning.
This year’s awards covered health and safety management, business improvement, accountancy, business management in schools, food preparation and healthy eating and safer recruitment. There were also NVQs in customer service, health and social care and for supporting people with learning disabilities.
The council knows that training is an investment which will benefit customers, whether they are local residents, students, business owners or visitors.
The main speaker was Roger Chapman of the Centre for Accreditation and Recognition (CAR) Northwest, who presented Bury Council with its Investor in People Award 2010.
Receiving the award was Councillor Jack Walton, last year’s executive member for human resources and performance. He said: “We want the people of Bury to receive the best services we can possibly give them. Training our staff is one of the best ways of ensuring that we provide those quality services across the board, as well as providing value for money.”
