New interim board appointed at six town housing

Bury Council appointed on May 20, 2010 a new Interim Board at Six Town Housing Ltd, the Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) which manages local authority housing on behalf of the council.

Within current arrangements set out in the Company’s Articles of Association (which describe how Six Town Housing should conduct its business as an ALMO) the council, as the owner of the company, has the right to remove the existing board and appoint a new interim board.

The council has expressed concerns over governance and has taken the decision to remove the current board and a new Interim Board has been appointed.

The members of the Interim Board are: 

  • Mike Kelly, deputy chief executive of Bury Council –chair of the Interim Board
  • Jayne Hammond, director of legal and democratic Services at Bury Council – Board Member
  • Guy Berry, director of personnel at Bury Council – Board Member
  • Mike Owen, director of finance at Bury Council– Board Member
  • Pat Jones-Greenhalgh, director of adult services at Bury Council – Board Member
  • John Willis, ex-chief executive of Salford Council – Independent Member
  • Tony Noblet, ex-assistant director of engineering at Oldham Council – Independent Member

Mike Kelly, chair of the Interim Board, said: “The Interim Board will operate in the best interests of Six Town Housing, its tenants and staff, and it is envisaged that the Interim Board will be in place only until November 2010 at which time a new board will be appointed at the Annual General Meeting.

“The Interim Board will work with staff at Six Town Housing to ensure that operational activities continue uninterrupted and in line with the key priorities for Six Town Housing, while addressing some of the governance issues which have come to light.

“I want to reassure tenants and staff that the Interim Board and management team will continue to support all operational activities and services throughout this period.”
