Police uncover Ramsbottom cannabis farm

Date published: 21 April 2010

Police have seized more than 100 cannabis plants from a house in Ramsbottom.

The plants were discovered after officers carried out a search warrant at a house on Bolton Road West at around midday on Tuesday 20 April.

The plants were at varying stages of growth and have an estimated street value of up to £15,000.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and £5,000 was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Sergeant Joanne Glynn of GMP’s Bury Division said: “This is a great result for the local community as we have managed to take a large amount of cannabis out of circulation. Communities across the Bury division have raised drug dealing as being a major concern and we are responding to those concerns.

“I would also urge people to be vigilant and if they spot unusual activity at neighbouring properties to contact us. Tell-tale signs can often include lots of different people coming and going at unusual times and all of the windows in a property being covered day and night.

“A major element of the many successes we have had against drug crime in the last year has been the level of support and information we have received from local people about crime in their neighbourhoods and we want to thank them for that and urge them to continue to provide us with information anonymously via the GMP drugs hotline on 0161 856 1417 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
