Bury College help learners gain ‘cash control’
Date published: 19 March 2010
Bury College was involved in promoting financial literacy and money management skills during ‘Money Week’ that was held last week.
A series of thought provoking events were held by the National Skills Academy Financial Services (NSAFS) to help highlight the importance of becoming more ‘money-minded’.
Activities included a shopping basket challenge where students guessed the price of the goods: one contained branded products and the other offered supermarket own brands.
A cookery demonstration called ‘Cooking on a Budget’ was also very well attended, with every student receiving a free recipe book, whilst other learners enjoyed a money quiz on their monthly spending.
Sylvia Perrins, Chief-Executive of the NSAFS, said: “Money Week is a great opportunity to raise awareness of and help develop the financial capability of young people in the UK. Our education establishments, like Bury College, play a fundamental role in shaping the future and the work being done to support the development of a more ‘money-minded’ nation is commendable.”
