Chop your chervil and braise your beetroot!

Date published: 22 March 2010

A new series of vegetarian cookery courses has been organised at Bury Adult Learning Centre.

These sessions are sure to be as popular as the first series, both with vegetarians and people thinking about giving up meat but need some culinary inspiration.

Those wishing to finesse their fennel can join Jane Hughes, chef tutor, on one of the courses.

An Introduction to Vegetarian Cookery runs for three Mondays (April 19, 26 and May 3) from 1pm to 3pm. For those with some experience of meatless cooking there’s the Fresh Ideas for Vegetarian Cookery, again on three Mondays (May 17, 24 and 31) from 1-3 pm. Finally, the Vegetable Cookery with the Seasons course runs over six Mondays, starting on April 19, from 7pm to 9pm.

Jane is celebrating ten years as editor of The Vegetarian, a national magazine produced by the Vegetarian Society based in Altrincham. This is an educational charity dedicated to giving information and advice to those considering vegetarianism.

Cordon Vert trained, Jane is a food writer with a passion for vegetarian food. “Cooking should be fun, and I want to give people the confidence to customise recipes to suit their own tastes, and show that cooking vegetarian style opens the door to a whole new world of flavours,” she said.

“We had such a fantastic response when we first introduced these new courses with the result that we’ve now organised these additional courses. We’re aiming to provide something for everyone, so whether you’re new to veggie food, looking for fresh inspiration or simply not sure what to do with the vegetables that you’ve grown or that have arrived in your veg box, come along!”
