Don't lose your voice - register to vote

Date published: 18 March 2010

Bury residents are reminded that they must be on the electoral register to vote in the forthcoming national and local elections.

The Bury Council elections are on Thursday May 6 and a General Election is also imminent and could be called at short notice.

Applying to be registered is quick and easy. However, as the register is published once a year and updated monthly, it is essential that the council’s elections office receives applications as soon as possible.

Residents who have changed address or their name (for instance if their surname has changed through marriage) since registering to vote are also encouraged to contact the elections office to make sure their details are up to date.

Anyone who is on the electoral register can apply for a postal vote. The latest date by which your application must be received is 11 working days before an election – so people are advised to get their applications in as soon as possible.

To register to vote, check your details or make further electoral queries, contact the elections team on 0161 253 5224. Alternatively, visit the council’s website www.bury.gov.uk/councilgovernmentanddemocracy/elections or email electionservices@bury.gov.uk
