GMPA statement - Police Report Card

Date published: 12 March 2010

Commenting on the publication of the first Greater Manchester Police Report Card, GMPA chairman Cllr Paul Murphy said:

“GMPA welcomes the introduction of Police Report Cards it is however disappointing that they are based on information up to October last year. There have been real improvements in Force performance in recent months and a report card which reflected that would provide local people with an accurate picture of policing today.

“As the body responsible for holding GMP to account for its performance, it’s reassuring for the Authority to see that the report card highlights issues which have already been identified and are being addressed. We will continue to robustly scrutinise the Force to ensure this work continues and is effective.

“Greater Manchester is the second biggest metropolitan area in the country and the amount and type of resources needed to keep our communities safe reflects that. Work to ensure those resources are used in the best way is constant by both the Force and Authority – only last month we agreed a budget which keeps us on track to make savings of £67.6million between 2008 and 2011.

“Local people can rest assured we are not complacent in this area. Every effort is made to deliver more for less and this always has and always will be the case.”
