Adult learners get their just rewards

Better job and education prospects await those who have studied with Bury Council’s adult learning service.
The students took a wide range of courses, and have been presented with their certificates at an awards ceremony held at Ramsbottom Library & Adult Learning Centre.
Some students attained French for Travel and Work, a two-year Level 2 qualification course which covers the four skills – speaking and listening, reading and writing. They have been able to use their skills at work in communications with colleagues in Belgium and France.
Others who work as child minders or with young children have secured Caring for Children Level 2 accreditation, a qualification which will improve their chances of gaining good employment.
Learners who studied BSL with Bury’s adult learning team can use this new skill to communicate with people with a hearing impairment. Although this course is not a recognised national qualification, it is equivalent to a Level 1 accredited course.
Some students who received a GCSE in English, a Level 2 qualification, needed this to enter university or to improve their job prospects.
Diana Sorrigan, assistant director (arts, libraries & adult learning), said: “I would first like to give my personal thanks to all the students for achieving great success. Their commitment and perseverance is a great credit to them and it is encouraging to see so many personal achievements in a wide range of studies. I hope with this additional learning it will help them achieve future success personally and professionally.”
