Families enjoy a magical fun day

Date published: 03 March 2010

Youngsters and their families enjoyed a magical fun day at Daisyfield Children’s Centre in Bury.

Dotty the Magician greeted the children as they arrived with an individual specially made balloon, and then treated them to a 20-minute magic show.

Both children and adults enjoyed holding and learning about various animals at the petting zoo – these included a rabbit, a guinea pig, a snake and even a tarantula!

Staff from Bury Libraries Service made owl puppets with the children to complement a storytime session when read “Owl Babies”. The Book Start Bear then handed out “Owl Babies” books to the children to take home.

There was also face-painting, a chance to make Gruffalo masks and play in the centre’s outdoor area, followed by a healthy lunch.

The event brought the local community together and brought new families to the centre who discovered all the sessions and services that Daisyfield has to offer.

Gemma Trow, children’s centre outreach worker, said: “It was a great day and the feedback we had from parents and carers was very positive. One said her child had never even seen a tarantula before, but loved touching it. Although I’m sure that not all parents could say the same!”
