Date published: 02 March 2010

Talented young athletes are hoping to do Bury proud at the Greater Manchester Champions Challenge 2010.

Team Bury will represent the borough at this regional event in a variety of sports including badminton, girls’ football, netball, rugby union, table tennis, virtual cycling and rowing.

Bury’s squad has been selected through trials, with volunteer team managers drawn from local clubs and schools. The team director is Pritesh Patel, from Bury Council’s sports development team.

The Champions Challenge, in partnership with the Manchester United Foundation, is a new competition involving the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester.

It takes place on Saturday March 20 at the Wright Robinson Sports College in Manchester, with the exception of the rugby which takes place at Trafford Metrovics.

The aim is to work with the national governing bodies of sport to create quality opportunities for young people to compete, and to unearth sports stars of the future. The competition will also provide opportunities for coaches and volunteers.
