Road safety plans for Greenmount

Date published: 15 February 2010

Bury Council has included Holcombe Road, Greenmount in its planned annual programme of Local Safety Scheme works.

These schemes are designed specifically to reduce the number of road accident casualties and improve road safety.

Holcombe Road has been included in this programme following assessment against a number of road safety criteria.

Within a 36-month period, a total of six personal injury collisions were reported on this length of road which resulted in 11 casualties. Of these, one was classified as a serious injury collision and the remaining ten were slight.

The council proposes to introduce a number of road safety features including Imprint surfacing on the southbound entry to Holcombe Road from Bolton Road West to visually reduce the carriageway width. Imprint is a decorative roadway surfacing material which is suitable for heavy traffic to drive over. The scheme also proposes improvements to the existing zebra crossing outside Greenmount United Reformed Church. A vehicle-actuated sign warning of the bends is also proposed, along with improved signing and lining.

Residents whose houses face the road will receive a consultation package including full details of the proposals and a response form which can be returned using the Freepost envelope provided. The questionnaire asks whether residents agree that action is necessary to address the traffic conditions on this length of Holcombe Road and whether they support the measures being proposed.

Full details and locations of the proposed measures are shown on plans which can be obtained from Jacquie Wright on 0161 253 5767. Alternatively, residents may complete a response form on-line by using the “On-line Consultations” link on the council’s website at www.bury.gov.uk/traffic-calming. All response forms must be returned by Friday March 19.

A report on the outcome of this consultation exercise will be presented to the Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor Local Area Partnership. The date of this meeting has yet to be confirmed.
