Charity Swim Raises Cash For Women’s Aid Federation
Date published: 18 December 2009
Assistant Director Kate Salesse from GMPs Forensic Service Branch swam 10 kilometers in an outdoor pool this week to raise money for the Women’s Aid Federation.
She swam a total of 500 lengths on 15 December at the David Lloyd Centre in Trafford Park for the charity, which is working to end domestic abuse against women and children in the UK.
A representative from the Women’ s Aid Federation, Gillian Mossop, who was there to support Kate on the day, said: "Kate’s swim was fantastic and it’s great that GMP is committed to learning more about domestic abuse so that their staff, such as Crime Scene Investigators, can provide the very best service to the public of Greater Manchester".
An extra fun factor was brought to the swim as Kate wore an inflatable traffic cone hat, which was an extra challenge from her colleagues in return for more donations.
Kate said: "I really enjoyed taking part in this challenging swim, the thing that kept me going was the thought of how the money raised could really ake a difference to peoples lives.
“Many more women and children will experience the devastating effects of domestic violence over the Christmas and New Year holiday, and the swim is my way of supporting the work of Women's Aid and encouraging more of my colleagues to get involved."
The Forensic Services Branch staff have already raised £1,075 following a successful fundraising cake bake day in November and the total is expected to go up even further as more sponsorship money comes in.
