Radciffe Works is a hit with local people

Date published: 07 December 2009

Hundreds of local people are taking advantage of the Radcliffe Works office to help tackle unemployment.

The new guidance and advice centre in Radcliffe offers residents access to training and employment opportunities by providing face to face help and advice from key services within the area.

Since opening in July, nearly 500 people have visited the centre for help. A range of services are offered there, by ADAB and the Shaw Trust, Next Step, Bury College and Bury Council’s libraries & adult learning service. There is also advice on housing and council tax benefits.

The project was developed to address unemployment in Radcliffe at the instigation of Councillor Bob Bibby, leader of Bury Council, who had seen similar successful projects operating elsewhere.

Councillor Bibby said: “I am delighted that so many people have taken advantage of the support and guidance that is offered at Radcliffe Works.

“This is a really valuable “one stop shop” for the town. It’s a good example of how the council and its partners have been able to join together to provide this service and help fight the effects of the recession.”

The centre, in Blackburn Street, is open from 11am to 3pm on Tuesdays and Fridays.
