Adult care getting better - official
Date published: 03 December 2009
“Within Adult Care, the focus is on delivering better outcomes for people who use services and transforming the way in which services are provided.”
That is the conclusion of the Care Quality Commission, the council’s watchdog on social care matters, in their assessment of Bury Adult Care Services released on December 3.
Bury was measured against seven specific outcomes, and the commission sees Bury as generally performing well. This means that Bury is consistently delivering services above the minimum requirements and making a positive contribution to the wider community.
Two areas – making a positive contribution and dignity and respect - have both been rated more highly for 2009 and reflects the hard work that was put into improving these outcomes.
Bury is especially proud of the score for making a contribution – which covers how we involve people in shaping services, including the voluntary sector, and providing opportunities for local people. This is the first adult care activity in Bury to be rated “excellent” by the inspectors.
The full results for 2009 (with the 2008 scores in brackets) for the seven outcomes areas are:
Improved health and emotional well–being: Well (Well)
Improved quality of life: Well (Well)
Making a positive contribution: Excellent (Well)
Increased choice and control: Well (Well)
Freedom from discrimination and harassment: Well (Well)
Economic well-being: Well (Well)
Maintaining personal dignity and respect: Well (Adequate)
Councillor Beverly Sullivan, executive member for health and well being, said: “This is a great result for Bury. It reflects the hard work that staff put in each and every day to improve the lives of vulnerable adults in this borough. We are not perfect and there are many challenges in front of us but with the support of the other local agencies we will continue to strive to make things better.”
