The Love Whitefield campaign roles into the Victoria Estate

Date published: 20 October 2009

The Love Whitefield Anti- Litter campaign continues with a Victoria Community Clean up and Fun Day on Tuesday 27 October between 9am and 1pm.

The event has been organised in response to complaints about a grot spot at the junction of Victoria Lane and Connaught Avenue after complaints from local residents to both the Local Area Partnership and Six Town Housing.

Residents are being asked to give a couple of hours of their time to tidy up the area. Litter pickers and other equipment can be collected from Whitefield Primary School. There will be skips on the estate for large household items except fridges, TVs, gas bottles and batteries. Cleansing Services will remove fridges and an appointment can be booked by contacting the council on 0161 253 5353.

The day will be supported by Six Town Housing Caretakers Team and Whitefield Street Cleansing Team.

The clean up will be followed by a Fun Session at Whitefield Primary School to say thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work.

Activities at the event include a BBQ, face painting, circus skills, balloon modelling, crafts with the Rangers, archery and multi-sports. Staff from Besses Children’s Centre will also be in attendance to promote healthy eating to local families.

The day will also be an opportunity for residents to get more involved in the estate by becoming a Six Town Housing STAR representative. For more information, contact Claire Delaney, Six Town Housing on 0161 253 8004 or emailing c.delaney@bury.gov.uk

Councillor Michelle Wiseman, Chair of the Local Area Partnership, said, “This is a positive and practical response to an issue raised at a recent Local Area Partnership meeting. A lot can be achieved by giving a couple of hours to tidy the area so I would encourage residents to come and join us.”
