Special event for dads and their lads at Bury Library
Date published: 13/10/2009
As part of the Family Learning Festival local fathers are invited to bring their sons to Bury Central Library on 17 October for a series of special sporting events.
The day kicks off with football fanatic Tom Palmer, author of the Football Detective and Football Academy series at 10am and 11am. Tom will run a football reading game where participants will have to answer his questions to win the right to take part in a penalty shoot out! The winner receives a special trophy!
At 12pm, the sporting theme continues, with a ‘Dad v Lads challenge’ on the Nintendo Wii. Dads will be pitched against their sons to see who can triumph in a family sports contest.
Between 1pm and 4pm, children aged four and over can take part in a series of fun art and design activities which includes a competition to draw a picture of your Dad, Grandad or sporting hero.
Storytelling and simple crafts will be available for younger siblings all day.
Diana Sorrigan Assistant Director Arts,Libraries and Adult Learning: “All family members are welcome to attend the event, but we are targeting fathers and sons particularly as we know that these two groups are less likely to come to the library together. Taking part in a fun event at a local library is a great way for fathers to spend quality time with their children whilst picking out some books, they can then share together at home”.
