Bury Libraries celebrate Get online day ‘09
Date published: 12 October 2009
On 22 and 23 October Bury Libraries will be giving people who have never used the internet before the chance to take their first steps with computers and the internet as part of Get Online day ‘09.
Local residents are invited to drop in and take part in a taster session on Thursday 22 at Prestwich Library between 9am and 7.30pm, or on Friday 23 at Bury Library between 10am and 4pm and at Tottington Library between 9am and 5.30pm.
Research shows that 29% of the adult population in England still don’t use computers and the internet. Get online day ‘09 aims to encourage more than 17,000 people across England to join their friends and family online, making October 2009 the month they get to grips with computers and the internet. The events being held at Bury, Prestwich and Tottington Libraries are just three of 700 taking place across the United Kingdom.
Councillor Beverly Sullivan, Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “Library staff are really excited and preparing for a busy day of helping everyone from complete beginners who want to try the internet for the first time, to those who know the basics but want to find out a bit more.”
“The internet is helping people learn more and live more and you too can be a part of it. By coming along to our event you’ll be able to find out how to make the internet work for you, whether it’s saving money on your weekly food shop or keeping in touch with friends and family, we can help you take your first steps and be a part of Get online day ‘09.”
