Jail for man who threatened officers with a gun

A man who threatened two police officers with a gun has been jailed.

Adrian Lee Taylor 28, of Lonsdale Street, Bury, admitted possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of cocaine with intent to supply at Manchester Crown Court Crown Square on Tuesday 11 August 2009.

Today, Friday 25 September 2009, he was jailed for four years.

At 5.30am on 12 March 2009, two officers, a detective constable and a detective sergeant from Bury CID, went to Taylor's home.

He opened his door and pointed a black handgun at one of the officers.

Taylor then shut the door before coming outside having hidden the weapon.

He was arrested and a gas powered pistol and 7g cocaine, valued at £200 were recovered.

Both officers have been awarded a Chief Constable's bravery award for their actions.

Detective Inspector Sarah Jackson, from Bury CID, said: "This incident demonstrates perfectly the dangers faced by police officers every day.

"To have a gun pointed and you and not know whether it is real or loaded must be an extremely frightening experience.

"In that situation most people may have backed off but the officers involved remained at the scene and quickly arrested Taylor, despite not knowing what he had done with the weapon.

"I am delighted he will now spend a number of years behind bars for his reckless and criminal behaviour."
