Message in a bottle at your local library
Date published: 02 September 2009
Bury Lions which was first set up in 1967 are working with the NHS to promote a new initiative ‘message in a bottle’ and have approached Bury library service for help in distributing these bottles.
This small plastic bottle is a lifesaver and is particularly useful if the emergency services are ever called out to a property. The bottle stores personal details plus information about illnesses, allergies, medication and GP‘s contact details plus any other important information a medical professional would need to know if a person became unconscious or was unable to communicate.
The bottle should be kept in the fridge and a sticker which is provided should be displayed on the fridge door. Emergency services personnel have been trained to always look there for this vital information which could help save someone’s life.
Melvyn Bradburn of Bury Lions and co-ordinator for the scheme said “Our aim is to help the public in any way we can and it’s great that all services are working together to distribute this”.
The bottles are free and can be collected from any of Bury libraries. If any other organisations in Bury would like a supply of these bottles they can contact Mr Bradburn on 0161 280 2498. This message in a bottle scheme has been running for a number of years and local residents can also pick up the bottles from GP practices and local pharmacies.
