Man critical following motorway collision

A 25-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was thrown from the back of a car that collided with the central reservation on the M66.
Police were called to the motorway, near to junction two, shortly before 7.30pm on Monday 31 August 2009.
Officers attended and discovered a Jaguar S Type had collided with a nearside barrier and the central reservation before bursting into flames.
A 25-year-old man was thrown from the back of the car onto the hard shoulder. He was taken to hospital for treatment to serious leg injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition.
The driver, a 25-year-old man and front seat passenger, a 26-year-old man, were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries and have since been discharged.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in police custody.
Inquiries are continuing.
