Bury Sports Development welcome two new staff to the team.

The Bury Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA) has recruited two new members of staff to a £200,000 project, lead by Bury Council, to promote sports and volunteering in the borough.

Bury Sports Development have secured two year investment from various local partners in Bury and a significant contribution through the Sport England Community Investment Fund for this project.

The new team members will lead specific initiatives within the SPAA Active Coaches and Volunteers in Bury programme to support the delivery of the Government’s target for more people to do more sport, by creating the best possible infrastructure of Clubs, Coaches and Volunteers.

Zoe Fernandez, Club Development Officer, transfers direct experience from Middleton Gymnastics club where she is a UKCC level two volunteer coach and plays a vital role in their ongoing development.

Lucy Halsall, Volunteer Development Officer, brings expertise from actively volunteering in sports placements at university and as a Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support Mentor to athletes registered on the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme.

Councillor Beverly Sullivan, Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “We are delighted to welcome these new officers to the council who work in a dedicated role to support increased levels of participation in sport”.
