Key success for Primary School pupils

Date published: 26 August 2009

Primary school children in Bury are getting a good grounding in the “three Rs” and science.
Results in the Key Stage 1 national curriculum tests show that the borough’s Year 2 pupils outperformed their counterparts elsewhere in the country.
Government tables show that 87 per cent of Bury children achieved the desired grade in reading, 81 per cent in writing, 92 per cent in maths, and 91 per cent in science.
Nationally the rates were 84 per cent for reading, 81 per cent for writing, and 89 per cent for maths and science.
Councillor Diana Ashworth, executive member for children and young people, said: "Everyone knows that Bury schools are excellent, and these results show that our primary school pupils are getting off to a flying start in their education. We hope they will take these achievements and build on them as they move through their years at school."
