Food lovers in Bury are encouraged to enter prestigious 'Love Food Hate Waste' award
Bury is searching for a company, community organisation or individual to win the innovative Love Food Hate Waste Award. The award is to celebrate this year’s partnership between Love Food Hate Waste and the Manchester Food and Drink Festival (MFDF).
Love Food Hate Waste (LFHW) is a national campaign set up by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) in November 2007 after research found that over 6 million tonnes of food is thrown away from UK homes each year. The average family could save around £50 a month simply by making the most of the food we buy and Love Food Hate Waste’s role is to provide practical advice to help us to do this. The campaign is working in partnership with GMWDA, the councils of Greater Manchester including Wigan and Viridor Laing (Greater Manchester) Limited (VLGM).
Love Food Hate Waste is the official sponsor of this year’s Manchester Food and Drink Festival with the key theme being food waste prevention. This prestigious award acknowledges its importance and wants to celebrate the work being done in Greater Manchester.
The search is on to find a food lover in Bury who encapsulates all that Love Food Hate Waste stands for. The category is open to anyone who is passionate about food and gives it the respect it deserves. A restaurant chef, market trader, owner of a small food store or an individual or family may all be candidates, as long as they are a committed food lover who does their best not to see a shred of food wasted.
Emma Marsh, from Love food Hate Waste, said: “At a time when every penny counts we can save around £50 a month simply by using the food we have already bought. Food which ends up in landfill produces damaging greenhouse gases and is a terrible waste of resources. We’re delighted that the Love Food Hate Waste campaign is helping the residents of Greater Manchester enjoy more of their food, help the environment and save money.”
Applicants need to have actively made a difference to reducing food waste. They will lead by example, by demonstrating the benefits and showing how easy it is to reduce food waste. They may have a community involvement and have shown innovation when it comes to their ideas, plans and activities.
The winner will be presented with a prestigious MFDF Award at the Gala Dinner and awards ceremony on the 12th October. They will also receive a night's stay at the Palace Hotel, including dinner at the Tempus restaurant.
By teaming up with the Manchester Food and Drink Festival, it enables Love Food Hate Waste to get involved with the celebration of great food in Greater Manchester and encourage residents to reduce their food waste, save money and help save the environment too.
