Police Panda to lend a helping paw at community fun day

Date published: 07 July 2009

Greater Manchester Police’s very own cuddly crimefighter will be helping local officers get to know members of the community at an exciting event in Whitefield this weekend.

Police panda Constable Cub will be attending the Boz Park Family Fun Day at Tonge Close, Whitefield on Saturday 11 July alongside officers from the Whitefield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

The annual event features a variety of entertainment and attractions including sports, games, face painting, balloon modelling, clay play, puppet show and BBQ.

PC Danny McCondichie of the Whitefield NPT said: “Constable Cub proved a very popular attraction with children at last year’s fair and he did a fantastic job keeping them entertained while we spoke to their parents and offered them crime prevention advice.”

There will also be representatives from a number of organisations in attendance, such as the fire service and the NHS, who will be providing information and support to people on a range of issues.

PC McCondichie added: “The fun day is a great way to bring communities together and we will also be highlighting the wealth of organised activities there are available for young people throughout the summer through our safe4summer campaign which is designed to help youngsters beat boredom and keep active during the holidays.”

The event runs from 1pm to 4pm. For details of the safe4summer campaign, visit the website at www.safe4summer.com.
